Literacy for Life Teaching Awards
Sponsored by Oreggia Family Foundation

The Literacy for Life Teaching Awards recognizes three educators annually who have promoted agriculture literacy within their classrooms and communities. The program honors individuals striving to increase the awareness and understanding of agriculture among California’s teachers and students.

Eligibility
All district-certified teachers engaged in integrating agricultural concepts into classroom settings at the K-12 grade levels are eligible. Examples may include involvement in school gardens, school farms, student nutrition, environmental education, etc. CFAITC will recognize and award individuals for the following categories:

  • Overall Literacy for Life Award (all teachers, grades K-12)
  • Vocational Agriculture Literacy for Life Award (for vocational agriculture teachers only)
  • Emerging Seed Literacy for Life Award (teachers newly incorporating agriculture)

Awards
Winners will have the opportunity to receive many awards, including:

  • $1000 Cash Prize (Overall and Vocational Agriculture)
  • $500 Cash Prize (Emerging Seed)
  • Recognition in CFAITC publication Cream of the Crop and other media
  • Expense paid trip to the 2009 National AITC Conference (St. Louis, MO)
  • Expense paid trip to the 2009 CA Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting (Anaheim, CA)
  • Expense paid trip to the 2009 California AITC Conference (Sonoma County, CA)
